Unit 2 Exercise Physiology

Jumping on the trampoline for 3 minutes.
I am doing 50 situps.

Jogging in place for 2 minutes.

Introduction:
I am measuring three body metabolic measures at rest and then after various exercises. I am measuring pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure. The activitites I participated in were jumping on the trampoline, jogging in place for 2 minutes and doing 50 situps.

Hypothesis: I think that jumping on the trampoline is going to make all the vital signs go higher because you are working every part of your body. Not just the upper or lower body parts but the whole body at the same time. I think jogging in place is going to be the second highest vital signs because it is working the whole body also. I think doing situps is going to be the third highest because you are just working the top part of the body. The legs are the biggest muscles in the body and doing situps you are not really working the legs at all. I think my baseline vitals are going to be in normal range for my age.

Materials and Methods:
I took pictures of myself doing situps, jumping on the trampoline, at rest, and jogging in place. I also used a blood pressure cuff and my metabolic rate data table. I recorded each activities vital signs 5 times and then got a means for each measurement.

Data:
Baseline- pulse- rep1= 80,rep2=80,rep3=78,rep4=80,rep5=78,mean=79
Resp-rep1=17,rep2=16,rep3=16, rep4= 17, rep5= 16, mean=16
systolic- rep1=120,rep2=160,rep3=160, rep4=160, rep5=140, mean=140
diastolic- rep1=60,rep2=80,rep3=80,rep4=80,rep5=70,mean=74

Trampoline:- pulse-rep1=136,rep2=138,rep3=136,rep4=137,rep5=138,mean=137
Resp-rep1=22,rep2=24,rep3=22,rep4=23,rep5=24,mean=23
systolic-rep1=160,rep2=160,rep3=172,rep4=160,rep5=170,mean=164
diastolic- rep1=84,rep2=86,rep3=82,rep4=82,rep5=84,mean=84

Jogging:-pulse-rep1=122,rep2=124,rep3=122,rep4=123,rep5=122,mean=123
Resp- rep1=23,rep2=25,rep3=23,rep4=24,rep5=23,mean=24
systolic-rep1=160, rep2=170,rep3=160,rep4=172,rep5=170,mean=166
diastolic-rep1=80,rep2=90,rep3=80,rep4=84,rep5=86,mean=84

Situps:pulse-rep1=116,rep2=117,rep3=116,rep4=116,rep5=117,mean=116
Resp-rep1=18,rep2=19,rep3=18,rep4=18,rep5=19,mean=18
systolic-rep1= 170,rep2=172,rep3=170,rep4=172,rep5=170,mean=170
diastolic-rep1=60,rep2=62,rep3=60,rep4=64,rep5=62,mean=62

Analysis:
I was right about the vital signs going up after doing exercises.I said jumping on the trampoline was going to be the highest and it was on the pulse, respiration rate, and on blood pressure. I didn't think the vital signs for doing 50 situps would be as high as they were. I guess the reason why would be because I was working my upper body closest to my heart.

Problems:

I don't think I had any problems but I didn't expect the 50 situps vital signs to be so high. I though jumping on the trampoline and jogging in place took a lot more out of me. That's weird.

Conclusion:

When you are sitting down relaxing your blood flow is normal so the vital signs are not so high. When you are doing exercise your blood gets pumping and flowing good through your veins and arteries so the vital signs are high. The oxygen gets pumping through and gets it high. I think any exercise moving closest to the heart really gets the vitals high and the blood pumping.
